  • What It Means To Be Southern Baptist

With God, even the most destructive of situations can bring new life. As missionaries in South Asia, we lived through the deadliest earthquake in recorded history. In the midst of fallen cities and broken lives, we ministered to island children--the most defenseless victims--and opened new areas for arriving IMB workers. In their own language, we told those who had never heard about a loving God who restores all things to Himself. We are Ray and Patricia Woolsey and We ARE the Cooperative Program.

I love New Orleans. I love the people, the music, the diversity, the food and the culture. This city is my home and one of the most influential cities in the world. When you reach a city like New Orleans, you impact the world. I am cooperating with fellow baptists by planting the Gospel in the heart of my city. As a result, it is my hope that my church family will contribute to the transformation of my city for the glory of God. I am living the Gospel, loving this city, and being the church. I am Rob Wilton and I AM the Cooperative Program.

The shared experience of working toward a common goal.

Cooperation is in our human DNA. We cooperate in civilizations to build skyscrapers and cities. We cooperate when we order and pay for our morning mocha frappuccino. We share experiences and resources every minute of every day. Louisiana Baptists share resources through the Cooperative Program.

The Cooperative Program is not an intangible philosophy, nor is it something limited to a few people in far-away lands. The Cooperative Program is a process that allows believers to play a critical role in the one-on-one ministry that changes thousands of lives every minute of every day!

The Cooperative Program exists because of believers who give of themselves through a life of service and faithful giving. When you give your time, energy and finances through our common effort... you are the Cooperative Program.

The question is not, “What is the Cooperative Program?” The question is... Will YOU BE the Cooperative Program?

Hurricane Katrina was one of the darkest periods in Louisiana history. As a team member of a Baptist Disaster Relief Feeding Unit, I helped meet people’s physical needs with a hot meal. More importantly, I helped them discover the peace of Jesus in a time of desperate need. A local pastor told me that the work done by ‘yellow shirts’ brought the Kingdom message to more people than he ever could by shouting it from his steeple. I helped bring the peace of Jesus during the fiercest of life's storms. I am Annette Monroe and I AM the Cooperative Program.

Reaching the world for Christ requires His followers to make diciples by teaching them the truths He taught. I have dedicated my life to teaching future generations of pastors, missionaries, and church planters. From the local church to our Southern Baptist seminaries, I have served at every level of Christian education. Students have traveled from my classroom to the uttermost ends of the earth to share the Gospel of Jesus. I am Charles Quarles and I AM the Cooperative Program.

Nearly 1 billion Hindus in South Asia give their worship and devotion to a myriad of gods. By any measure, most of those people live in desperation. With futility, they pray to gods who cannot hear their cries, nor love them or guide them. I spent two years telling them about the one true God who loves them beyond understanding. I was a witness of a loving Father God to students in South Asia. I am Mandy Wallis and I AM the Cooperative Program.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, I give God His tithe with joy. Beyond the tithe, I am blessed to give to other mission offerings, like Lottie Moon, Annie Armstrong, Georgia Barnette, and our church-sponsored mission trips. I believe in faithful stewardship, especially in the area of finances, because I believe in the value of cooperation. I give to my church, and my church gives faithfully to missions through the Louisiana Baptist Convention. I am a faithful giver and I AM the Cooperative Program.
